Challenge
Policy makers in the state of California know about the Blue Economy. But many do not quite understand its potential to play a world-leading role in ushering in a new era of clean, sustainable and responsible technologies that resolve many of our most critical ocean and water challenges.
Also not quite understood is that the growth of the sustainable Blue Economy will require incredible numbers of both skilled and trades workers. This is exacerbated when realizing that the state is already facing a significant under-supply of labor for Blue jobs, and this is only forecasted to get more challenging in the future.
Solution
TMA BlueTech will once again be hitting the road to promote the promise of California’s sustainable blue economy, this time co-hosting a 2-day event with our partners, California State University Maritime Academy (CSUM). This event will take place at CSUM, which is located in the Bay Area, and a stone’s throw away from Sacramento’s policy makers. TMA is already working to build a sustainable Blue caucus in Sacramento, and this event will showcase the potential of this sector to not only build upon a rapidly growing sector, but meet the crucial need for the good-paying blue jobs of the future.
In addition to the policy and workforce development focus for this event, also on display will be company exhibitions, technology demos in the bay and tours of the CSUM campus.
The following illustrate our objectives for this event, as well as how political and commercial interests will intersect to highlight and begin to realize the potential of California’s sustainable Blue Economy. In short, this event will:
● Outline challenge areas to growth and implementation of new technologies in this sector
● Identify solutions that policy makers can implement to allow for sustainable blue growth;
● Feature new and innovative technologies in the Blue Economy sector;
● Facilitate discussions among participants that solve identified challenge areas;
● Create dynamic connections and collaborative possibilities among participating companies;
● Allow for participants to facilitate, and benefit from, commercial opportunities.
Dates/Place
● Dates: September 19-20
● Place: California State University Maritime Academy
